About You

Would you benefit from what I offer?

Here are a few things to consider

Are you struggling with tiredness, weight problems or having blood glucose that is too high?

  • You may wonder why you don't have more energy
  • You may have difficulty sleeping
  • You may have difficulty reducing the size of your waist or losing weight
  • You may have symptoms of high blood sugar, such as tiredness, fuzzy thinking, cravings for sweet things or being thirsty a lot
  • You may have tried to lose weight, get slimmer, to eat less sugary foods or increase your exercise but struggle to achieve any lasting results
  • You may have found that you are eating the same as you used to but are putting on more weight
  • You may have been told by your doctor that your blood glucose (sugar) levels are too high or that you have insulin resistance

If you are a woman in middle age, around menoapuse, it can be more difficult to manage your blood glucose.

You probably already know that you need to eat less sugar, however you may not be aware of how much sugar is in the food you eat, especially in processed foods, or how to reduce it.

You may be aware that carbohydrates are also a source of sugar for our bodies, but what we are told about how much or little carbohydrates to eat can be confusing.

Are you also wondering what actually are carbohydrate foods? Your daily choices about sugary foods and carbohydrates can have a positive or negative impact on blood sugar levels and your health in general, but you may be feeling confused about what is best and how to manage to eat well in a busy life.

Other nutrients are also important: are you having enough protein?  Are you getting all the vitamins and minerals you need?  These can also have an impact on well-being and blood sugar control.

Also you may not be aware how much impact that stress and poor sleep can have on blood sugar levels.

To benefit from working with me you need to:

  • Recognise that you have poorer health than you might wish, which may be caused by high blood glucose levels, although this doesn’t need to be diagnosed by your doctor initially.
  • Or you may simply be struggling with your weight or have been advised by your doctor that weight loss would improve your health
  • Be committed to making changes to what you eat and drink and other aspects of your life such as sleep, stress and exercise.  However these changes will be gradual and I will support you in taking small steps, so that you don't become overwhelmed with the change
  • Have time to commit to the sessions with me. The initial time commitment is three one-hour sessions over six weeks.  You may also need to allow time to prepare and plan meals and other changes
  • Be willing to pay for this service.

You may also be:

  • Someone who is interested in food. You may not be a “good cook” but it helps if you are interested in (or at least willing to try) home cooking. It also helps if you are willing to eat vegetables, although you don’t need to know a lot about how to cook them initially as this is part of the support I can offer. You may also eat fish, meat, dairy and eggs.
  • Any gender, but women often have more problems managing blood sugar as they age, so if you are over 40, peri-menopausal or post-menopausal you may find what I offer particularly useful.
  • Someone who is interested in engaging with me to explore what different choices you can make to improve your health and well-being.
  • Wanting to have more energy for work, to be with family, to play with children or grandchildren, to go on outings or to cook and eat together.
  • Someone who has something you want to contribute to the world, some way you would like to help other people but are finding that your current health is restricting that purpose. You may even have had some work that you enjoyed, but had to cut back or stop due to your health.
  • Maybe someone who already cooks from scratch regularly, using good ingredients, such as from an organic veg box. Things can still go awry with your blood sugar, which may be confusing for you when you are trying to eat healthily.
  • Wish for better health for your family too, but not be sure how to support them best.

What I can’t help you with:

  • As a Nutrition Coach I am not qualified to advise on supplements. If you are looking for this sort of advice you need to find a qualified Nutritionist, such as those listed on the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council website.
  • I cannot diagnose your condition. If you are concerned about your blood sugar levels or any other aspect of your health please talk to your doctor.
  • I can’t arrange blood tests or any other health tests. Again speak with your doctor, or some Nutritionistal Therapists are able to organise a range of health tests.
  • Although I respect those who follow a vegan diet, I am not an expert myself and there are special considerations if you are vegan, so you may prefer to find someone else who has more in-depth knowledge of vegan nutrition.
  • I also do not have understanding of the ketogenic diet, so again you will find more specialised practitioners who do.
